Madi Matsushima - Head Girls Water Polo Coach

Madi and her family moved to Mission Viejo in 1998. At the age of 4, she joined the Mission Viejo Nadadores Swim Team. She would continue her club swimming career for 10 years there. When she was 12 years old, she started club water polo and never looked back. Madi attended Capo Valley High School and was a 4-year varsity water polo player and swimmer. She was the team captain for both sports her junior and senior year. Madi was recruited to attend Concordia University, Irvine to continue her water polo and swim career, and was there for two years.

In the summers Madi coached club water polo and was a coach for the Nadadores Summer Satellite Program, in the Las Flores Community. In 2015, Madi started her high school coaching career. She started at Capo as their boys' frosh/soph coach and in the same year coached girls' junior varsity water polo at Dana Hills. She would split her time that year and coach swim at both schools. In 2019 she made the move over to San Juan Hills High School and helped with the boys and girls water polo and swim programs and was there for 4 years.

After a long journey of her own, Madi graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with honors and a degree in Business Administration. In the summer of 2022, Coach Cardey (former boys head coach) contacted Madi to see if she was looking to make the transition to a head coaching position. As it was meant to be, at the beginning of that school year, she was offered and accepted the position as the Tesoro Girls Head Water Polo Coach. In the fall of this year, she also took over the Girls Swim and Dive programs. She is passionate about working with kids and all that come with being a part of high school sports.
