Matt Poston- Head Varsity Football Coach

Coach Poston was raised in Huntington Beach and attended Huntington Beach High School. He was a valuable member of the football team and earned 1st Team All sunset League honors as an Offensive Lineman, the school’s Lineman of
the Year recognition, and was also a Team Captain. The Oilers enjoyed one of their most successful seasons during 1992, and eventually lost in the CIF playoffs to Esperanza High School who became CIF champions. Coach Poston was also a member of the HBHS undefeated
CIF Champion boys’ volleyball team. He went to the University of Redlands to play football before an injury ended his playing career during his freshman year. He transferred to the University of Arizona and received his degree in Business Management.

Coach Poston first came to Tesoro High School when the school opened in 2001. He was hired as a mathematics teacher, and served as the Head Freshman Football Coach for the next 6 years, and his teams overall record was 54-6 winning their
league every year but once. In 2007, Coach Poston was promoted to Varsity defensive coordinator and held that position for three years. During that period the Titans were 25-10 and won the South coast League twice. In 2008, the Tesoro Titans had a remarkable
season going 13-1 and eventually lost to Long Beach Poly in the CIF championship. During this time Coach Poston also assisted with the Tesoro Boys’ Basketball and Boys’ Volleyball programs.

In 2010, Coach Poston left Tesoro to become the Head Football Coach at Capo Valley High School. In his three years at Capo, he revitalized a program that hadn’t had a winning record since 1996. In 2010, the cougars finished last in their
league. In 2011, they finished in 2nd place. In their 2012 season, Capo Valley earned its first league championship since 1995. Because Capo was his first Head Coaching position he is always pulling for the Cougars to do well.

When the Tesoro head Football coach position came open in 2013, Coach Poston felt it was time to return “home” to the school and program he had helped build for nine years. In the past 4 seasons under Coach Poston’s lead the Titans have
gone 32-15 and finished ranked in Orange County Top 10 three times. He is extremely excited to be leading this very accomplished football program.

Coach Poston lives in Ladera Ranch with his beautiful and supportive wife of 14 years Regan. Matt’s son Keegan (12) is a young superstar in baseball, basketball, and flag football and will be joining his dad on the sidelines as the team’s
ball boy. His daughter Josi (10) loves to dance and sing, and is a stud soccer player. Both of his kids are future Titans!
